Rev. Adrienne Rush was involved with ICM for many years, she was passionate about ecumenical cooperation and was instrumental in inter-religious dialogue and understanding as part of ICM.
Reverend Adrianne Bernice Rush, 70, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024. She was born on November 25, 1953, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to the late Fred O. Rush Sr. and Claudia Daniels Rush.
Adrianne was an ordained elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, a 1997 Payne Theological Seminary graduate, and a distinguished scholar who served as pastor and associate pastor through A.M.E. and United Methodist Church appointments in New York, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Her life of service to her communities included a career in hospital, visiting, and hospice nursing. Adrianne came to seminary as an alumna of Mercyhurst Preparatory School ‘71, Mount Holyoke College, and Villa Maria College’s School of Nursing. Her broad scope of interests, activism and community service is reflected in her lifelong embrace of liturgical arts, ecumenical practice, African American history, and service ministries.
Adrianne is survived by her two sons, Azim Washington (Elspeth Koehle) and Abdullah Washington; one brother, Fred O. Rush Jr. (Donna Rush); two sisters, Cynthia P. Rush, Cheryl R. Rush Dix, and additionally Diana Galloway, and Yvonne Young; three grandchildren, Solomon M. Washington, Rumi Amen Washington, and Elijah J. Washington; four nephews, Ishmael Keyes (deceased), David Dix, Frank Dix, and Charles Rush; three nieces, Christine Rush McCullum (Gregory McCullum), Colleen Rush, and Elena Dix, and beloved cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews friends and colleagues who cherish her memory.
Friends may visit with the family at St. James A.M.E. Church, 236 East 11th Street, on Saturday, July 27, 2024, beginning at 10 am, with services to follow at noon and subsequent interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Avenue, Erie, Pennsylvania 16504, through whom the family gratefully acknowledges any correspondence of condolence.
